Hello,
I am alive!! And reading. I decided that for 2024, I would read 15 books. So far I have read 13.
I am going to be sharing the books I read in the month of May. Well, completed in May, I did start some this month that I have yet to finish.
Okay, so I am going to start in chronological order and do a short review. I don’t like to share too much plot, it seems unnecessary.
- None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell.
- Okay, this book was a crazy read. It was so weird reading it, in the sense that it made me feel physically uncomfortable by some of the interactions. Super big red flags that the protagonist ignored throughout the book. Anyway the ending had me like :O
- Overall, a good read. I rated it a 4 on Goodreads.
- Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.
- This was a book I had been reading over the course of a few months, THANKS LIBBY. I finished it in May. I love some of Kingsolver’s books, for example, The Poisonwood Bible. That is one of my favorite reads to date. Well, this writing is somewhat similar, but the story really captured me in the first half. The second half… not so much. It lulled where it should’ve been wrapping up.
- I personally hated how it quickly wrapped up Demon’s love story in the end. BIG SPOILER, but for someone who had very little family, it took a character that was originally meant to serve that image and then the title lover was slapped on them. To me, it was just a little lazy.
- 3 stars, I did like some of the themes in this book and it was truly compelling in the beginning.
- The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.
- Hmmm… this book was so-so. Reader, please note, I typically am a hard critic of books I read, even if I enjoy them. I don’t know why.
- I liked the concept of the book, but that is about it. The ending did not align with the rest of the book in my opinion. I think it could have been a very fun read about time travel or a very serious read about, almost self help book about life and choices we make always having a consequence. This was somewhat in the middle.
- I would say this book is not important enough for me to hate on or to recommend.
- I rated this book a 3!
- Finally, I read Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
- Let me just say, that some of TJR’s books have been so good in my opinion, that you have to understand where I’m coming from when you see my rating.
- This is a good book, in fact, if this had been one of the first books I read from TJR, I would have become a fan. I would like to note, the first book I read from TJR, was 7 Husbands (IYKYK). This just was a bit different and not as enticing. With that being said, for me not knowing anything about tennis, it was good enough.
- I listened and read to this book, so I got it in towards the end of May. The person who primarily recorded the book did a wonderful job, although there were some additional voices that chimed in that were also pretty good.
- I rated this a 3, just because I did not connect as much, but I would recommend this book if the right topic came about.
These books were good, they were filling up my days and helped me get steps in so yeah. I appreciate them all. If I mentioned one that you love, tell me why. If you have any recs, I would love to add them to my TBR. I will try to keep this up so we’ll speak again at the end of June. 🙂
