Well, well, well. I knew you would be back.
Hehe, just kidding.
I am back to tell you about what I have been reading the past couple of months. My reading habits go up and down throughout the year, but July has been my most productive reading month in 2024. August was so-so. It happens, we all go through reading slumps, but I’m glad I was still able to complete some books. Anyway, lets get started!

Educated by Tara Westover

I believe I gave this book a 3.5. This is the first audiobook I have completed in 2024 from start to finish. As an FYI about my reading habits, I will switch to audiobooks when I’m washing dishes or doing something where I can’t physically hold a book/kindle but then I always go back to reading. For Educated, I decided to just listen all the way through.
The book was good and it falls more under a memoir, I want to say. I did not know anything about this book when I started listening to it and was very intrigued by how strong a role Mormonism plays into people’s lives, especially this family’s life. I was very heartbroken by the difficult relationship between the author and her father.
The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue

This book was okay. It is a book that may be enlightening to someone in their late teens/early 20s. Please note, I am 25 LMAO. but it felt very specific to people in college, learning to be independent, learning about love.
Now, I probably would have devoured this book in 2019/2020 because its not bad, it just did not come across in the same way now that I have lived a bit more. It made me think of a book called The Idiot by Elif Batuman, which I did read in college and thoroughly enjoyed. I still of think of that book.
The most exciting part of the book was the last 20 percent, which is a shame because it was kind of stringing me along in hope of something interesting.
Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum

Okay, when I say that this is the trashiest book, I hope you understand that I mean this in the best, most reality tv way possible. It was an amazing summer read, not a lot of learning all entertainment.
Like the title states, these people are terrible. It takes place during the summer time with family friends who are actually each other’s enemies.
Look this really was not a moving book, but it was like listening to gossip and it made it very fun to get through after work.
Bride by Ali Hazelwood

I left a separate review of this book in my Goodreads, so check that out if you want more detail.
This book was very hyped up on social media, but it was just OK in my opinion. I didn’t really feel like the characters had chemistry which sucks. I also had to learn what knotting is and I wish I could forget.
Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez

This book was a surprise for me. I started it and was not super into it during the first few chapters, but slowly started to get interested.
Similar to Bad Summer People, a lot of these characters are not only flawed, but actually horrendous people. This takes us through the lives of Puerto Rican siblings with a very radical mother. Its a little out there when you think of it, but it is actually a very good read.
Olga, the protagonist, is a strong woman and that really is what made the book for me.
Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

I gave this book a 1.5 because it felt bad to leave a 1. This book is the worst book I have read this year. Nothing else to add here.
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

This book was okay, average love story. I also wrote a review on this book in Goodreads that goes a bit more into detail, if you’d like to see. 🙂
As a reader who enjoys romance, I am going to reiterate on this page that I hate the miscommunication trope in a romantic book. It just comes off as lazy from the writer and silly from grown adults in the books. You are telling me they didn’t speak for 10 years when they had such a special and strong bond? Out of character.
Funny You Should As by Elissa Sussman

I listened to this book on a roadtrip and I loved it. I have a bad habit of not reading anything about books before starting them and I’m glad I did that for this book.
The book has mixed reviews on Goodreads, but it was very cute in my opinion. Maybe its because I only listened to it. The narrator did a really good job and it was one of those plots that I feel all of us ladies have had as a middle schooler. 😂
Loved the book boyfriend in this book, I actually didn’t like the main female character as much. Usually its the other way around.
How to Love Your Daughter by Hila Blum

This was the second book I listened to on my road trip and third audio book.
This book tells the story of a mother’s relationship with her daughter. The mother obviously loves her daughter, but from the way the narrator speaks in the character’s voices, it is obvious that the relationship is troubled.
I don’t know if that is the purpose of the author, to have you read between the lines, but I feel like the mom is unreliable, obsessive, and narcissistic. I don’t think you have to read this book, there are probably better books out there that know how to highlight these complicated relationships.
Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson
I am a Holly Jackson fan since I read her first book to this series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
This book was a good read, but it was not as good as the first one. The plot for this one was a bit more obvious where the first one was a super solid book. It was pretty easy to guess who was the culprit here even if the why wasn’t as obvious.
It happens to most sequels, they can’t live up to the first book/movie/season, but it was still interesting. I am reading the third book in September, so I will keep you updated on how this ends.
Anyway, in total I read 10 books for the past two months. I am hoping to get some more done in September, maybe 5 books?
I will be back, but until then, read on! 🙂 If you have any suggestions for books or posts in the future, let me know
