Media Pendeja

Hi y’all!

Media Pendeja! This is the name of my page (Of course, you can see that).

I wanted to give a quick explanation as to why I chose this name and also let you know what it means, if you are not already aware. I’ve had this domain for a while, but I’m not sure I ever explained why I chose it.

SO. To start, I must let you know that I am Latina, I do have parents who are Mexican and I currently live in Texas. I actually have mentioned this before and am working on bringing back and “About Me” page, but for now, I’m sharing it in this post so you guys know.

In Spanish, and specifically Mexican culture, pendeja is a term that most would consider vulgar or crass. It is the feminine version of pendejo and it can actually mean quite a few things depending on the context. The way I would describe it, would be b*tch (if speaking directly to someone), stupid, dumbass, and even foolish. Like I said, varies depending on the conversation. The way I use it the most often is when telling people and even myself) to not be stupid, as an expression of something stupid they/I have already done, and even as a term of endearment (sort of like Hi b*tches!).

For example:

“No seas pendeja.” Don’t be stupid (feminine).

“Ay pendeja.” Idiot/Dumbass (feminine)

“Eso te pasa, por pendeja.” That’s what you get, for being stupid (feminine).

You get the point, right?

When I was looking for a domain a few years ago, I wanted it to be something that I related to and even then, I knew this was something that would keep resonating with me. It had to be in the name, it just made sense to me.

At the time, I also used the phrase “Eres o te haces” often. For my Spanish speakers or Googlers, this is “Are you ___ or are you pretending?” The blank is literally there… or not there. There is no specific adjective (INSULT) in that phrase unless you actually want to include it. So this would be a dig to someone. Almost like when people say “You can’t be this stupid.”

I have used that phrase a plethora of times, but I have also been on the receiving end unfortunately. HA! My quip for this is I’m half stupid/kind of stupid or media pendeja. I don’t pretend to be stupid, but stupid catches up here and there and that is okay. This especially made sense when I was 23!!!

We’ve all had our moments and I think its fine to own it. I don’t want someone to look at this page and assume everything I post is self deprecating, more so, I want the message to be that we all have good and bad takes. A quick note, I did like the idea that the word media would be read mostly in English and people would think its just a smart title for distributing these posts.
