Hi everyone,
Happy March. Well… Happy end of March!
I have read one book since January. Let’s get into what it was.
Heart the Lover by Lily King

It took me a while to finish this book. There is no point in lying; I took my sweet time with this story. I hit a reading slump after January, and it took me a bit to ease into this.
With that being said, this book is a solid four for me. Wow.
The beginning was fine, nothing too exciting was happening, but it really built into something much more substantial than your typical college story. I’ve read books that start with similar settings, such as The Idiot by Elif Batuman or The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue. These books, including King’s, drop us into a world of college students and show us how they awkwardly transition into real adults. The characters always make a mess that will eventually need to be revisited and addressed.
The main themes I got from this were the pain of first loves, the importance of friendship, and how relieving forgiveness can be. One other thing that the book left me with, which might not be a theme, was the passage of time.
The book has no real major twists; it is simply a story about love. The platonic interactions are much stronger than the romantic ones that go on in the book. The only real quip I have is that the time jumps that happen leave me wanting more about the main character. Apparently, this book has a companion, Writers and Lovers, so I will definitely check it out and update you on whether that fills in the gaps for me.
I can’t go into too much detail; apologies if the review falls flat. I feel like it would be unfair to you. I have always tried to stay away from spoilers in my reviews, and this book unfolded in such a beautiful way to me that if I can get just one person to give it a try, I would feel very accomplished.
I will be reading more in April. More personal updates to come in the next few weeks as well. Lots of news!
Thank you for always letting me come and go. This page is always a safe landing for me, and you guys make it so.
